Something similar to stomvi
Currently I am using a stomvi 5a for tenor but since I started doubling it's been feeling a bit small. I am thinking about moving up to a 4 but since stomvis aren't very easy to find, I was wondering what other mps have a similar design.

Re: Something similar to stomvi
Amongst my many mouthpieces , I have a Stomvi size 4 Comby set (1 rim, 1 body, 5 cups and 2 shanks); I also have a VINCENT BACH CORP. 4G, a Denis Wick4AL,(and a very rare 4AS!!!! ) and a Doug Elliott LT102H8. The Stomvi diameter is 26.02mm and the others are all 26.00mm according to official literature and internet charts; these figures seem to be fairly accurate using a UK 2 pence piece coin-25.9mm. as a guide.
From the above measurements, I think the nearest thing you will find to a Stomvi 4 is a Doug Elliott 102.5 rim at 26.04mm.
The costing are Doug Elliott system= $230/£170 against Stomvi system= $540+/£400+. These figures may seem expensive but the cheaper alternative, (a plastic Kelly mouthpiece and a file) may not be too successful!!!!
Cheers

Are stomvi rims on the sharper side?

Re: Something similar to stomvi
The Stomvi is similar to the Wick but has a slightly wider and flatter rim. The Doug Elliott is a little more rounded than the Wick with a similar thickness to the rim and the Bach is the roundest of them all. The Bach is a recent acquisition and I haven't spent much time on it yet but it hasn't grabbed my attention at the present!
