On the Hunt..

For the last 6 years I’ve played a Yamaha 622 with a Yeo mpc. I’ve recently scored a great deal on a Getzen 3062 and I’m on the hunt for a mpc. The Yeo sounds ok, but I don’t like the rim and only played on it because nothing else sounded as good on the 622. My Schilke 60 is a dud. My 59 sounds amazing but has too much back pressure and is already causing tightness in the chest. I like the blow and size of the Yeo, but I like the sound and the rim contour of the 59. Any ideas what to try next? I’m using the 59 and seeing if I can adjust my air and compression ratio, but in the meantime I would love the chase if a new piece.

I use a Doug Elliott LB112/L/L8. You can go to the 114 rim for a little more space. It's similar in diameter to the 59 but deep like the Yeo.

2nd that recommendation. I’m on a 114 but I was on a 112 for a pretty long time. Yet to try anything that is as comfortable and also good sounding for me.

If you are getting tightness in your chest, you're blowing to hard, IMHO. Trombones are resonators, not air cannons. While I usually use a larger mouthpiece, I have no trouble achieving peak volume with a humble Faxx 1 1/2G.

I would take a look at Hammond design mouthpieces. Probably a 20BXL? Not super sure if the bl or bxl is the right cup depth to match a yeo. If you use the contact link they'll probably get back to you very quicky, at least that was my experience.

Doug Yeo was using my LB 114L8 prior to Yamaha making his named model. It's sort of a slightly shallower Schlke 60 size.

I would probably recommend a small step down, LB 112 or 113 with an L cup and L8 shank. A medium-wide rim might take care of the comfort issue.

Funny, that's exactly what you sold me when I first met you at a NYBCFS. I downsized to a 112 rim too. Especially as I got older and couldn't handle the larger rim.
