Jean-Michel Defaye 1932-2025

Post by Ellefson »

Today I was saddened to learn that M. Defaye passed earlier this month at the age of 92. He gave us a lot of music that is fun for both performer and listener.
May he rest in peace.

RIP
I didn't even realize he was still around.

Just like Doug, I assumed that Defaye passed away decades ago. I knew that he wrote some of his trombone masterpieces (Two Dances, The Trombone Quartet, etc….) in the early to mid 1950’s. Hearing the news of his passing, I am only now realizing that he wrote those pieces when he was rather young…….in his early 20s. Great composer. I recommend his “Two Dances”to any advanced trombone player who has never played the piece.
