Giardinelli Rim comparison.

Hello all.

Can anyone point me towards a Mouthpiece comparison that tells us what size a Giardinelli 4 rim is? And a 4W.

I’ve looked At the following charts and can’t realky work out the size:

Ok! First time I've attempted to do this.......hopefully the above is a Giardinelli size chart??

I have a screw rim 5M and can tell you for a fact it's smaller than a 5. More like a 6 or 7.

I'm convinced that a 1 Bass Trombone will probably be like a 1 1/2 G.

You did a great job.

Takeaway: Giardinelli rims are smaller than similar numbered Bach/Wick/etc. rims.

FWIW, my Doug Elliott LT rim screws onto my Giardinelli underpart, but there's a "step change". Doug recommended I get a MT rim to fit properly.

A Giardinelli 4D is their answer to the 6 1/2AL
The 4M is basically a 6 3/4C with a little shallower cup
I had talks with the mouthpiece makers at Giardelli NYC back in the late `70`s about making me a 6 1/2 copy and that`s what they told me

For what it's worth (given the "ish" nature of mouthpiece dimensions), I have a copy of a Giardinelli Mouthpiece Catalog from the 1990s that shows the 4C mouthpiece with an approximate "Medium" depth Cup Diameter of 25.4mm and a Bore Size of 5.75mm. This would make it essentially the same as a Bach 6½A (25.40mm/5.85mm) rather than a Bach 6¾C (25.0mm/5.85mm).

Your mouthpiece may vary!

The 4C didn't exist in the 70's when Giardinelli was a pretty major mouthpiece maker in NY, I think into the mid-1980's or so.

I don't know when it happened, but Giardinelli closed their retail location which is also where they made mouthpieces, and the name continued as an online store with mouthpieces made somewhere else. The older mouthpieces were well known and fairly consistent.
