Pokorny Low Brass Seminar
June 18-23, 2018
Unlike many festival type opportunities, this is an intense workshop for low brass players to really engage a wide range of musical, stylistic, technical and professional issues in-depth with unprecedented access to some of the most respected low brass players.
In past years the performers have included professional symphony musicians, free-lancers, college teachers, graduate and undergraduate music majors, advanced high school students and dedicated amateurs. These broad perspectives have created wonderfully rich discussions that inspired and energized all of the participants.
You can attend the Pokorny Low Brass Seminar as a Performer, Auditor or as a participant in the Pre-College (High School) Program. All participants play in the warm-up and large ensembles and can attend any of the sessions. A limited number of performers will be accepted by audition or professional recommendation to perform in the Masterclasses. High School Program participants will attend all of the talks and concerts, but will have a special set of masterclasses designed specially for younger students.
To apply as a performer, complete the application (select Pokorny Low Brass Seminar or Pokorny High School Seminar Registration) and submit the $50 application fee along with a one-page resume and a recording of 2 contrasting solo passages and 5 standard orchestral excerpts by April 1, 2018. Recordings can be uploaded in the application via web links using Dropbox, YouTube, SoundCloud or a similar application. The remainder of tuition will be due upon acceptance.
Experienced professionals and college faculty may apply by resume and professional reference. To do so, contact Dr. Andrew Glendening directly at ]. Performers will be notified by April 15, 2018. Tuition for performers is $700. Room and board is available on campus.
Anyone interested in Auditing or attending the High School Seminar can register anytime.
