Until recently my main and only axe has been a 72H with a Marcinkiewicz 1 1/2G mouthpiece.I just bought an early TR180 with a dependent F/bE tuning.
What mouthpiece suggestions would you suggest that would give me the same compact and centered sound I get on the 72H for the Holton?

I would start with the Marcinkiewicz. It might be all you need. That said, you might also try a Schilke 59, which was a popular mouthpiece with that horn.

It'll be a different sound no matter the mouthpiece. The 180 has different proportions, different tapers, larger flare, different materials.

That's two wonderful trombones, different but both are good in their own way. Enjoy the difference. The Marcinkiewicz 1 1/2g works very nice in both.

Marc 1 1/2G does work fine in my 180, but I usually feel like it responds more characteristically with a deeper cup. I used a Yeo for years on it, currently on a Wick 0AL.
If you really want a "compact and centered" sound on a 180, you could try to find the Holton VH-Bass mouthpiece - designed for Lewis Van Haney, who also consulted on the 180 design. It's a bit smaller than a Bach 11/2G. They're somewhat on the rare side.

Ask Doug Elliott. He could probably come up with a rim/cup/shank combo for you.

Theres no reason you cannot use the mouthpiece you have been using. I personally do not subscribe to the concept of using a certain mouthpiece for a specific horn. I have used my bass mouthpiece in at least 30 horns of wildly different specs without issue.
