Maybe it's an european thing, but recently I had a lot of questions regarding the different options with Greg Black mouthpieces. So I put together an explanation page wich resumes the weight options and the different series available.

Nice summary. I can understand why people would be confused -- there's a dizzying array there. You can spend a full career just trying to find your "ideal".

Is there a good outlet for ordering GB mouthpieces with a reasonably fast turnaround these days?

If I have something in stock I ship immediately. My website is always up to date with what is in stock.

Two others are Houghton Horns (Texas) and Wind City Trombone's (Illinois) Reverb Page. They usually show what's immediately in stock.

Please pardon my ignorance, but are all those GB models available in small shank? if not, which are?

I just took a look, and most of what is on this list are large shank models. I think almost anything can be ordered in small shank as a custom order, and Greg does make some small shank models with larger rim sizes (mostly with the "C" cups and "AL" cups) as a standard offering. The numbers in the mouthpiece designation shows the rim size and the letters refer to the cup depth. Higher numbers are actually smaller rim sizes, and the designations are very similar to Bach mouthpiece sizes. The NY Series doesn't correspond to the rest of his mouthpiece sizes.

Swisstbone did a nice service here - the numbers can be confusing, because much like Bach's offerings, adding new models requires confusing new "in-between" numbers etc., but there is logic there if you understand the system. I think you can find the standard small shank mouthpieces clearly designated on Greg's site.

I only stock large shank mouthpieces. But yes, you can order pretty much everything as small shank too.
