I'm a beginning bass trombonist with 3ish years of experience and around 8 months of using a bass trombone. Currently, I'm using a Schilke 59 and it's great for also playing in tenor range which I still play at, but I wanted to look out for a better mouthpiece with an overall larger rim and cup for better low range, since I found it generally nice to play on a tuba mouthpiece to get down into lower notes. Can I please get some good reccomendations?

Schilke (or Yamaha) 58
Bach 1 1/2 G or 2G
These are generally smaller sized bass mouthpieces.
The Yamaha 57 or Bach 3G are "tweener" size, usually considered small for bass and large for tenor. But maybe good for you for now.

I'd do a 2G.

+ 1 for the Faxx 1 1/2. It does well for me, and I’m really rather new still to bass.
I also really recommend the wick 2AL. It is a little smaller than the Faxx. For me it gives a better access to the lower range than a tenor sized mouthpiece and doesn’t kill my chops as fast…

I find the Josef Klier 3A is very comfortable, especially if I haven‘t played bass for ages.
Otherwise I‘ll add a vote for Bach 1 1/2G or 2G.

Talk to Doug Elliott, will save you a lot of time and dollars in the long run.

A Faxx 1 1/2G would be a good choice, or a Bach 2G / Yamaha 58. You should be able to find those all relatively cheaply. I still use my Faxx 1 1/2G after a layoff from playing bass until I get my bass airflow back.
