InSlide Job featuring Doug Elliott

Post by mccuskermusic »

Hi everyone,

A couple of weeks ago, Doug came up to Philadelphia to play with my jazz trombone group. We had a great time featuring him on a wide variety of tunes as both a soloist and lead player. Doug basically sightread everything, including some quite difficult charts, and the club uploaded videos of two selections from that gig. I wanted to share them here and give another plug for Doug since he has been such a wonderful resource and mentor over the past 12 years I've known him. Taking lessons from him is amazing, but playing next to him is a next level incredible experience!

If you are in the Philly area and would like to come check out the band, follow us on our instagram page here:

Our next gig will be on Tuesday, May 6th, and we will be featuring the great Bass Trombonist Max Siegel.

Nice. When you're arranging, do you make a distinction between the valve and slide trombones?

Wow! Very nice. Doug played some fine improv.
Really enjoyed the guy to his right soloing. Nice ideas.

Thanks! These two particular tunes I did not arrange. Bolivia was arranged by a friend of mine, Banks Sapnar, and DeCoupage is Hank Levy’s composition and arrangement. However when I arrange, I do often treat the valve trombone player as a distinct voice in the section, and I often feature him as a soloist, or if there are particular lines that might be weird for slide, I’ll put them in his part. He is also an excellent slide trombonist!

Thanks so much! His name is Jasyn Brazoban and he is an excellent musician who leads his own stuff all the time here in Philly.

Thanks for posting! Great sounding group and nice charts. Nice that you had Doug as a guest, and hope you post some more videos for those of us who might not be around Philly.
